Current Issues

The issues that the union pursues in the future depend to a very large extent on you, the members. However, there are of course a number of issues that the union is already considering as possible ways to improve teachersf working conditions. The issues members feel most strongly about will become the union's priorities. We need to know what you think and what you want.

Here are some of the possible improvements we can fight for.

* Public (National) holidays
Do you sometimes wonder why other workers don't work on national holidays but we do?
Our holiday entitlement should compensate us for this, don't you think?

* Travelling time
Many of us are asked to work at branches that require additional traveling time at each end of our working day.
Don't you think we should be paid for the time?

* Teaching Kids
Conditions and schedules for kidsf teachers are often arduous. Kids training is inadequate.
No one should have to teach kids if they don't want to.

* Extra money for special skills
Kids, Business, TOEIC, TOEFL, Eiken, etc. These teachers are more valuable to the company and should be paid for it.

* Preparation time
The law says preparation time must be paid!

* Changes in salary at end of probation/contract renewal
Why not from the exact date of the new status?

* The abolishment of probationary salary

* Breaks - is it enough?

* A guaranteed annual pay raise

* Reinstatement of Paid Sick Leave

* Penalties for mistakes
If you make a mistake and go to the wrong work location, you get a cash penalty. Do the Area Managers have to pay for their mistakes? I guess not - so why should we?

* Daily conditions and safety
Is your school a clean and safe working environment?
Do you have to use a fire escape as a stairway?
Are the chairs adequate?
Do you have access to good clean drinking water?
Are the toilets in good repair?

You are being evaluated every 6 months,why don't you evaluate your school for a change.
